Long-running trivia game show “Jeopardy!” was among those celebrating the 75th anniversary of “Peanuts” this month, dedicating an entire category to the comic strip created by the late longtime Santa Rosa resident Charles M. Schulz.
Host Ken Jennings introduced the category on the Oct. 2 episode of the show, “because today is the 75th anniversary of the very first ‘Peanuts’ comic strip.” he told the program’s three contestants.
The strip’s characters, animated specials and even Schulz’s favorite baseball team were among the clues.
The show was originally approached in March by an agency representing Apple TV+ about writing a category on the “Peanuts” programming on the streaming service, according to “Jeopardy!” producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss.
As the conversations continued, the show connected with Peanuts Worldwide LLC, the company that manages the rights and licensing for the comic strip and its characters, and decided to focus on the 75th anniversary, she said in a Friday email to The Press Democrat.
The show’s Emmy Award-winning writing team was given access to the full “Peanuts” archive for their research, Whitcomb Foss said. The show also got help from Peanuts Worldwide to include animated clips from the specials included in the clues.
