TEMPE — Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon has been around the block a time or two.
He’s seen some things as a coach and scout.
So, when asked Wednesday about taking emotion out of coaching when injuries and roster adversity comes around and how that first came about as a coach, Gannon left nothing up to the imagination.
“2007 when our quarterback went to jail,” Gannon said Wednesday.
Talk about a mic (or Mike) drop.
This is the wildest ending to a head coach press conference I’ve ever seen…

The quarterback referenced? None other than Michael Vick, who pleaded guilty for his involvement in illegal dogfighting rings and was sentenced to 23 months in prison.
Fresh out of serving as a grad assistant at Louisville, Gannon followed head coach Bobby Petrino to the Atlanta Falcons and served as a defensive quality control coach.
The honeymoon phase didn’t last long, though, with Vick’s legal troubles cropping up before training camp of that season.
The rest is history.
Despite the optics, the quarterback made his way back to the NFL in 2009 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles after doing time.
He spent five seasons in Philadelphia (2009-2013) before one-year stints with the New York Jets (2014) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2015).
Petrino resigned before the end of the season, a year in which the Falcons went 4-12 with no franchise quarterback running the show. He latched on with Arkansas as their head coach in 2008.
Gannon, meanwhile, got out of coaching for the short term. He went on to work as a college scout for the then-St. Louis Rams.
Arizona’s current head coach ended up leaving the Rams in 2011 before getting back into coaching as a defensive quality control coach for the Tennessee Titans.
From there, Gannon had coaching stints with Minnesota, Indianapolis and Philadelphia before landing in Arizona.
