DENVER (KDVR) — A juvenile is in police custody after allegedly making a false threat against Ralston Valley High School just hours after the Evergreen High School shooting.
The Arvada Police Department said that it arrested the suspect on Oct. 14 after investigating hundreds of Safe2Tell reports related to the social media threat directed toward the high school. The FBI also assisted with the investigation at that time, the police department said.
Safe2Tell stops possible drunk teen driver, prevents blackmail in near-record monthThe threat led to about 1,100 students choosing not to attend school on Sept. 11 — the day after the Evergreen High School shooting.
The social media threat involved a photo shared with multiple students on Snapchat that allegedly showed a rifle, ammunition and a magazine lying on a table. A text caption said "Be ready rv" and included a purple demon emoji.
Arvada police contacted the suspect that night during the Safe2Tell investigation, but had no evidence at the time to substantiate any criminal charges. The photo was found to have originated on a French social media video that was posted in 2024, with no credible threat to Ralston Valley High School.
However, the Arvada Police Department responded to the post by adding patrol officers to assist school resource officers, providing an increased presence and visibility at Arvada schools.
School resource officer Nicole Deering interviewed multiple students, parents and faculty members about the threat and ultimately narrowed the investigation to a current student.
The Arvada Police Department said that a forensic examination of the suspect's device showed a "significant amount of evidence connecting the suspect to the original threat," including online searches that said verbatim:

Other digital devices had online searches for "is if a federal offense to make a school shooting threat."

The suspect is currently facing a class 1 misdemeanor of interference with staff, faculty or students of educational institutions. The student was not identified by the police department.
The news of the student's arrest comes the day after the Colorado Attorney General's Office announced that it had its second-highest total monthly reports in program history in the wake of the Evergreen High School shooting.
