Julie Chong, a finalist at the Eastern Zone Senior Championships, will be staying close to home next fall, as she has announced her verbal commitment to swim for West Chester University beginning in the fall of 2026.

Chong recently began her senior year at Abington Senior High School in Abington, Pennsylvania, which is just under an hour away from West Chester. Chong has been a member of Abington’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. She also currently trains year-round with Germantown Academy Aquatic, specializing in breast, free and IM.
Last season, Chong enjoyed a series of top swims at the IN OLY Winter Invite in December. She logged six personal best times over the course of the meet and earned a second swim in one event. Chong placed 21st in the 100 breast in 1:09.31 after setting a best time of 1:08.82 during prelims. She also contested the 50 free (26.82), 100 free (57.22 – PB), 200 free (2:01.58 – PB), 100 back (1:02.66 – PB), 200 breast (2:27.77 – PB), 100 fly (1:03.10 – SB) and 200 IM (2:14.92 – PB).
Chong qualified for the PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) 3A State Championship in March, where she threw down a lifetime best time of 5:08.87 in the 500 free. She finished 19th in the event, narrowly missing out on a spot in the final.
Just one week later, Chong competed at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championship. She posted a new personal best time in both the 100 breast (1:07.92) and 200 breast (2:25.67), in addition to racing the 500 free (5:16.46) and 200 IM (2:13.57).
Most recently, Chong turned in a series of top swims at the Eastern Zone Senior Championships (LCM) in August. She placed 8th in the 200 IM (2:32.27), 13th in the 50 breast (37.38) and 18th in the 100 breast (1:20.90), setting lifetime bests in each event. Chong also posted a best time in the 200 breast (2:53.67) but scratched out of finals in that race.

The Golden Rams have won 18 consecutive conference titles, beginning back in 2007, with the exception of the 2020-2021 season when no meet was held due to COVID-19.
Last season, West Chester sent three women on to compete at the NCAA Division II Championships, where the team finished 26th overall.
Based on the results from the 2025 PSAC Championships, Chong would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 500 free and 200 breast, the ‘B’ final in the 200 IM and the ‘C’ final in the 100 breast, setting her up to be a key contributor right from the start.
Joining Chong in West Chester next fall will be Addyson Despeaux, another Pennsylvania native who excels at back, breast and IM and should make for a strong training partner over the next four years.
