Officers arrived at the scene to find evidence of a shooting but no victims, Shih said.
While investigating the incident, officers located a pair of victims – a man and a woman – and their car, which was “riddled with bullet holes,” Shih said. The man had been shot at least once and was taken to an area hospital. The woman was not injured.
Shih said the shooting happened during an altercation between the victims and the suspect.
Detectives identified the suspect as Michael Alvarez, 38, of San Jose, and obtained arrest and search warrants, Shih said.
On Oct. 8, while officers were attempting to serve the warrants, Alvarez barricaded himself inside a home near the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and Willow Street, Shih said.
Officers used a “chemical agent” to get Alvarez to surrender, Shih said, adding that a search of the residence turned up a loaded privately made firearm, ammunition, a 3D printer and drugs.
Alvarez was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as firearm and drug-related crimes, Shih said. He is being held without bail at the Main Jail in San Jose.
