ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT expanded its emergency medical services with the addition of a second ambulance. The service, which has been operational for more than 50 years, responds to over 600 calls annually and provides standby coverage for more than 40 intercollegiate athletic events and campus gatherings.
The second ambulance allows RIT Ambulance to maintain standby coverage even during emergencies elsewhere on campus.
“Our first hockey game of the year, first women’s hockey game of the year, there was an EMS call going on while the hockey game was going on so 6369, the new ambulance, was able to respond to that call while the hockey game was able to continue with 6359, our prior ambulance,” said Chief Derek Hochbrueckner of RIT ambulance.
The RIT Ambulance has been recognized by the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation as an EMS Ready Campus for its excellence in emergency management and disaster preparedness.
The second ambulance was funded by a $272,000 state grant.
