The Chicago Bears drafted Caleb Williams to be a game-changer who could bring prosperity to a franchise that hasn’t ever gotten it right at the quarterback position. And while QB1 still has a way to go in his development, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is rewriting the franchise’s record books as a second-year starter.
Things just love to see include his latest entry into the Bears record books:

— StatMuse (@statmuse) October 14, 2025That is such a mind-blowing stat to me. The Bears have been around since 1920. And yet, it took until 2025 to have a quarterback who opened the season with five consecutive games of 200+ passing yards with at least 1 passing touchdown. It is bonkers if you think about how many other quarterbacks have done that over the years. But then, you stop and remember that this is why Bears General Manager Ryan Poles drafted Caleb Williams to turn this thing around.
Caleb Williams is changing the narrative surrounding Chicago Bears football
These are Caleb Williams’ stats through five games this season:
98/159 (61.6%) 1,179 passing yards 9 touchdowns 2 interceptions 7.4 yards per attempt 98.0 passer ratingMORE ON THE BEARS MNF WIN: Game Recap | Instant Grades | The Nightcap
Those aren’t bad numbers. The 5.66 TD% is strong, as is his 1.25 INT%. Those are strong ratios. My favorite Caleb Williams number is one that I didn’t even mention above. The number is 10, as in sacks taken by QB1 this year. Yes, the offensive line deserves a ton of credit for their work in the trenches. GM Ryan Poles deserves a fist bump for putting this group together. And Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson deserves some kudos for his scheme that has helped keep the quarterback upright. But let’s not forget about Caleb, whose processing has been quicker and decision-making has been better this year than it was last year.

332/541 4,009 pass yards 31 touchdowns 7 interceptions 34 sacks taken 95 rushes 367 yards 7 rushing touchdownsWATCH: BEN JOHNSON’S POSTGAME HYPE SPEECH AFTER BEATING THE COMMANDERS
If you had asked me at the beginning of the year if I would be on board with Caleb Williams throwing for 4,000 yards, 31 touchdowns, and a high-90s passer rating while also cutting his sack total in half, I would have done a somersault. I don’t even know how to do one, but I would have figured it out had you been able to guarantee that outcome for Chicago’s QB1 in 2025.
The thing about Caleb Williams, at this stage of his development, is that there is still room to grow. As a rookie, Williams laid some eggs and threw some clunkers along the way. There is a part of me that expects one or two of those throwaway games to pop up between now and the end of the year. Caleb still misses too many open receivers. And every scramble drill has me holding my breath because I don’t want him to take a brutal hit when it could have been avoided.
But with that being said, Caleb Williams is developing and is so clearly better now than he was at the end of last year that I am willing to watch him take some bumps because we have seen how he has bounced back from adversity. The best is still yet to come from QB1, and I fully expect his rewriting of the Bears’ record books will continue.
