Good luck getting a wink of sleep when you want to run through a wall at 12:40 a.m. because you just watched a Ben Johnson post-game speech after a win that felt so good for so many reasons.
How do you not feel good for Bears quarterback Caleb Williams? QB1 was robbed of a signature win last year when the Fail Mary incident happened. You’ve got to feel good for cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who played a solid game and was probably deserving of an ESPN redemption arc package from the Monday Night Football broadcast team. What about D’Andre Swift? The much-maligned Bears running back had his best game with the team. Not only did he score the important touchdown that kept Chicago alive, but he also gutted out tough yards that made it easier for Jake Moody to nail the game-winning kick.

And yet, in the end, I can’t stop thinking about how this is a signature win for Ben Johnson. This win has to feel sensational for a coach whose career in Detroit came to an end because of the Commanders squad that was on the opposite sideline tonight. Johnson getting a pound of flesh with a road win is a whale of a story. And it’s not one I’m used to the Bears being on the right side of now that I’m thinking about it.
Do Ben Johnson’s Bears have things they need to clean up? Of course. Johnson mentions in his post-game speech about how this team needs to get it together when it comes to the penalties. The squad also needs to play with more consistency from start to finish. But I think it will be easier to push the guys in the locker room harder after a win. And I imagine those guys will want to play harder now that they’ve got the sweet taste of success that comes with three consecutive wins.
