Junior Nationals qualifier Maryellen Lewis has announced her verbal commitment to compete for the University of South Carolina beginning in the fall of 2027.

Lewis is currently working on her junior year of high school through HomeLife Academy, a homeschooling organization based in Tennessee. Outside of school, she swims year-round with Excel Aquatics in Franklin, Tennessee, where she primarily specializes in free, back and fly.
Lewis enjoyed a strong season last year, turning in a number of top performances and lifetime bests over the course of the 2024-2025 competition season. At the Mardi Gras Invite in January, she set new personal best times in five events: the 200 free (1:53.43), 100 back (57.92), 200 back (2:05.38), 200 IM (2:10.52) and 400 IM (4:34.73). Her performances in the backstroke and IM events still stand as her top times.
Lewis competed at the 2025 Southeastern Championships this past February, posting a series of top swims. She was the runner-up in the 50 fly (25.15), placed 6th in the 50 free (24.02) and took 9th in the 50 back (27.20), setting new personal best times in all three events. Lewis also finished 10th in the 100 back (58.17).
At the IN FAST SwimStrong Dryland Championship a month later, Lewis threw down yet another stream of lifetime best performances. She placed 4th in the 200 fly (2:03.30 – PB), 8th in both the 200 free (1:50.92 – PB) and 100 fly (55.45 – PB), 10th in the 100 free (51.53 – PB) and 13th in the 50 free (24.09).
Over the summer, Lewis competed at the Speedo Junior National Championships (LCM) in Irvine. She clocked lifetime bests in the 50 fly (28.46) and 100 fly (1:01.95) and was just shy of her personal best in the 100 free with a time of 58.45.

At the 2025 SEC Championships in February, the Gamecocks took 5th overall before sending eight athletes on to compete at the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship, where they finished 24th.
To earn a second swim at last season’s SEC Championships, it took times of 48.82/1:46.68 in the 100/200 free, 53.11/1:55.25 in the 100/200 back and 52.92/1:58.30 in the 100/200 fly, putting Lewis outside the cutoff in each of her top events. With almost two more full seasons to go until she arrives in Columbia, there is still plenty of time for Lewis to improve her times and scoring chances even further.
Currently set to join Lewis in the pool for fall 2027 are Paige Stepanoff, Libby Helmer and Madeline Ryan, who should all make for strong training partners over their four years together.
