‘Part of me has died’ – Dustin Poirier gives huge concerning take on UFC retirement ...Middle East

Dustin Poirier has opened up on his feelings post-UFC retirement, and his comments have left some fans concerned.

Poirier, 36, bade farewell to his beloved sport, MMA, in July after being outpointed by Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 318.

The UFC had rewarded ‘The Diamond’ with a retirement fight in his home state of New Orleans, Louisiana, after a stellar 14-year run in MMA’s biggest league.

Poirier had declared the fight would be his last long before he met Holloway in their trilogy bout, and despite opening the door to meeting fellow UFC legend Nate Diaz in the boxing ring, the American seemed to be at peace with his retirement.

However, that doesn’t mean that leaving the UFC hasn’t mentally impacted Poirier, who last week made a stern admission on how he has been feeling since laying down the gloves for good.

Dustin Poirier missing MMA and UFC ‘everyday’

Responding to a fan asking how much he misses being out of the MMA world, Poirier said: “Every day, [from] the moment my eyes open.

“I’ve done it for two decades, dedicated my life to it… A part of me has died.”

‘The Diamond’ had previously told a fan who missed his absence in the UFC, saying: “Trust me, I miss it too.”

MMA fans were quick to pick up on his most recent admission, with many feeling regretful for the former lightweight star.

One took to X and responded: ” Damn, this is sad…”

Another said: “You’re searching for something you already have. Stay content.”

A third added: “Man. Sucks to hear. So hard to find a job that you love. It’s a tough transition… one day at a time, I suppose.”

While a fourth wrote: “It’s okay, champ, part of you has died, but another part was born. You’ve put in the work. Being from Louisiana, I can’t wait to see how many dogs we get coming out of here in the next 10 years that you inspired in the dome that night.”

Another pointed out that Poirier’s new job as a UFC desk analyst could help with ‘scratching the itch’ while he reminisces about his time being a fighter.

In August, Poirier landed his first gig on the desk post-retirement for UFC 319 in Chicago.

The 36-year-old posted on social media that he was looking forward to working in his role and to ‘start focusing on that now.’

Poirier fought 21 times in Dana White‘s promotion after making his debut in January 2011.

He became the interim UFC lightweight champion in April 2019, but failed to capture the undisputed crown five months later in a bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

After beating Dan Hooker and Conor McGregor twice, Poirier challenged for the UFC lightweight title once again against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 in December 2021.

However, ‘The Diamond’ was submitted in the third round of their Las Vegas bout, and didn’t get another chance to fight for gold in his final five UFC bouts.
