I’m going to be completely honest with you: as this game progressed, I wrote and re-wrote a few paragraphs trying to give my usual glimpse of the key moments in this game. But it was pretty simple tonight: the Blackhawks lacked discipline, and the Canadiens had no problem allowing the Blackhawks to do dumb stuff and take penalties. Montreal had nine power plays before the end of the second period.
And you know what? It was fun. Yeah, the penalties were bad and the Blackhawks have to get better at not putting themselves behind the ball in games, but this was as close to a playoff intensity game as the United Center has seen in a few years. Two young teams really getting after each other with something to prove.
Star 1: Sam Rinzel
When you score your first career NHL goal, you’ve got a really good chance of being the No. 1 star from me. The Blackhawks desperately needed something — anything — and he ripped this one home.

Guess who had assists on the goals from Rinzel and Connor Bedard? Nazar — who now has points in all three Blackhawks game this season and two multi-point game already.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 12, 2025Star 3: Wyatt Kaiser
It was pretty clear early on that Kaiser’s job tonight was to make Ivan Demidov’s life hell. And he did a great job of doing that. Other than having a couple pass attempts blocked by Kaiser, I didn’t really notice Demidov in the first period. Maybe a nice backcheck… while on the power play…? And when I noticed him in the second, it was usually in the middle of guys exchanging weekend plans.
Key Takeaways
Spencer Knight was awesome in the first period. Officially, the shots on net were 8-6 in favor of Montreal. Natural Stat Trick had the shot attempts at 21-9 and the scoring chances at 12-6 for the Habs. Knight kept the zero on the board. He allowed a couple goals in the second period — the Canadiens had a 14-4 advantage in high danger chances thru two periods. He would be my fourth star of the night. Ilya Mikheyev was the Blackhawks’ best player in the first period. He was flying, flipping the ice and taking pucks away. A very impressive opening period from 95. With the Blackhawks spending so much time short-handed, Mikheyev was relied on heavily in the second period. He skated 7:02 on the penalty kill before the end of the second period. Teuvo Teräväinen had his second multi-point game of the season tonight as well. All hell broke loose in the United Center five minutes into the second period. Kaiser and Demidov were going after each other all night and it boiled over into a line brawl. Louis Crevier and Kaiden Guhle threw hands, Demidov jumped Kaiser, Tyler Bertuzzi came to the defense of Kaiser and the United Center started a USA chant. — Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) October 12, 2025 The Blackhawks won 4 of 15 faceoffs in the first period. They won 7 of 20 in the second period (11 of 35 total). Lukas Reichel had one decent rush in the first period and… tried to pass the puck to a trailer who wasn’t there. The amount of time killing penalties kept him off the ice, but he was a ghost when someone wasn’t in the box. Demidov finished the night minus-one with one shot on goal and one giveaway.Hence then, the article about blackhawks 2 canadiens 3 three stars key takeaways was published today ( ) and is available on Bleacher Nation ( Middle East ) The editorial team at PressBee has edited and verified it, and it may have been modified, fully republished, or quoted.
