2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL
October 10-12, 2025 Carmel, Indiana SCM (25 meters) Meet Central Psych Sheets Live Results All The Links Live Recaps Prelims: Day 1 | Day 2 Finals: Day 1The second prelims session of the 2025 World Cup – Carmel went off this morning and many of the stars were out in full force, but Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey will be in one less event tonight.
Harvey touched in 1:54.81 to qualify eighth in the 200 free this morning, a little over three seconds shy of the 1:51.49 she produced to win World Championship silver last December, but has opted to scratch the event. In her absence, Australian Brittany Castelluzzo, who clocked 1:55.54, is bumped from ninth into lane eight of tonight’s final.
While no official reason has been given for the scratch, it’s likely strategic, given she’s ranked second for tonight’s 400 IM timed final. Swimmers can race as many events as they want at each stop, but only their three best swims count toward their overall standing.
With $112,000 USD on offer for each gender at each stop ($672,000 for the whole series), limiting events could mean targeting better scores in other events. Prize money is awarded to the top 20 finishers at each stop, with men and women scored separately. In the event of a tie, the swimmer with the higher AQUA Power Points in their best event wins.
Her biggest challenges tonight will likely come from Team GB’s Abbie Wood, who owns a best time 0.99 faster, 4:24.34 to 4:25.33, and the 2021 World silver medalist in the event, Ellen Walshe of Ireland, who is coming off obliterating the oldest Irish National Record in the 200 fly less than 24 hours ago.
Harvey is no stranger to winning the 400 IM at the World Cup, having logged victories in Shanghai (4:28.03) and Incheon (4:26.23) during last season’s circuit before notching her current PB for runner-up at the final stop in Singapore.
Earlier in the meet, Harvey touched fifth in the 400 free (4:01.09), eighth in the 200 breast (2:23.26), and 10th in the 100 IM (59.66), a bit shy of her lifetime markers of 3:54.88, 2:19.53, and 57.04.
She is set to take on the 800 free (#2 seed) and 200 IM (#4 seed) to wrap up the meet tomorrow.
