Former White House staffer Steve Bannon is urging New Yorkers not to vote for Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani.
Mamdani, a self-described Democratic socialist, has been leading in polls and has drawn strong criticism from Republicans.
Bannon, appearing on The Hill's sister network NewsNation, called Mamdani a threat to New York City and said it wasn't clear where his campaign's financing was coming from.
"We have no idea where this money's coming from," he said in the interview on NewsaNation's "Batya!" — which will air in full on NewsNation on Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT.
The MAGA ally also alleged that there was a celebration of hate in the streets of the Big Apple on the anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, attack that sparked the war in Gaza, when some people held protests in support of Palestine.
Bannon added that he thinks it is possible for President Trump to remain in the White House after 2028, despite the 22nd Amendment's prohibition on presidents running for a third term.
"I think that there are many different alternatives that, at the appropriate time, after the midterms, we will roll out," he said. "I think there are many different alternatives to make sure that President Trump is on the ballot, and if he's on the ballot, he'll win."
