By this time next week, boys tennis individual state tournaments will be underway and on the verge of reaching their own conclusions.
The Class 4A state tournament takes place Oct. 16-18 at Pueblo City Park, with the 5A championships taking place on those same days but at the Denver Tennis Park.
With state berths at stake, local athletes competed in regional tournaments Wednesday and Thursday.
In each class’ eight regional tournaments, two participants at each position qualify for their respective state tournament.
Only one local athlete punched his ticket to state outright, but a couple others could still end up competing as alternates.
University senior Kendyl Nunnally earned the No. 3 singles bracket’s second state qualifying spot out of the 4A Region 4 tournament.
Also in 4A, University sophomore Keanan Gallegos will be a No. 1 singles alternate, and Windsor junior Gabe King will be a No. 2 singles alternate.

Northridge junior Everett Lewis was named to the 4A first team after tying for second place at state.
Top-10 placers at state tournaments were named to the all-state first teams. Those who finished 11-20 earned second-team spots.
Eaton senior Dayne Schmidke and Resurrection Christian sophomore Levi McDowell were named to the 3A first team after placing third and ninth, respectively, at state.

Frontier Academy sophomore Isaiah Fowler earned a spot on the 2A first team after finishing a very close second to Swink senior Noah Pearson. Fowler and Pearson tied through the first 36 holes, but Pearson secured the individual state title in a playoff.
Windsor Charter freshman Braylon Ball (9th) also earned a spot on the 2A first team.
Frontier Academy had two second-team selections: senior Hayden Leblount and junior Canton Sandstrom after tying for 20th at state.

Fall sports postseasons are coming along swiftly and suddenly.
After boys tennis wraps up about a week from now, the next fall sport to come to a head will be softball.
Regional play is slated for Oct. 17-18 with state tournaments set for Oct. 24-25 at the Aurora Sports Park.
Brackets for regional play will be released by CHSAA on Monday.
