ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Friday marks World Homelessness Day. To mark the day, organizations across the globe, including in Rochester, will work to connect people with services and raise awareness for homelessness. Here’s what to know.
House of Mercy
The House of Mercy on Ormond Street is celebrating its 40 years of service to Rochester’s homeless community. There will be a community resource table at the shelter from 2 to 4 p.m.
Community partners, including the Rochester Housing Authority and Family Promise, will be at the shelter to connect people with housing support, family services, and other resources. Guests will also get free to-go lunches.
Open Door Mission
The Open Door Mission is highlighting the stories of people who have experienced homelessness, local leaders, and other community members through a 24-hour livestreamed event.
“Conversations on a Bench” is part of a nationwide campaign called Citygate Network. On the Open Door Mission’s YouTube and Facebook pages, people can watch a livestream of conversations. It began on Thursday and continues on Friday.
Viewers can interact by submitting questions or prayer requests. Over 100 organizations are participating in similar events.
