DENVER (KDVR) — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for information or video footage from a high school football game last week after an "incident" led to one of the coaches being ejected.
Specifically, law enforcement wants information or video of the Mountain Vista sideline during the conclusion of the Oct. 3 football game between Valor Christian High School and Mountain Vista High School.
Speed cameras launched in Colorado mountain townAccording to a release from Valor Christian High School, the incident involved an assistant coach from Mountain Vista High School and a Valor player. The school said that game officials immediately responded and ejected the Mountain Vista coach from the game.
The school also said it was aware that the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado High School Activities Association were investigating the incident, and was cooperating.
"Coaches are entrusted with modeling integrity, discipline, and respect - values that are fundamental to high school athletics and to the safety of every student on the field," said Valor Christian Head of School Bryan Ritz. “From the video I have seen, the assistant coach’s behavior is unacceptable. No coach or adult should ever put their hands on a student. Our community expects and deserves better from those entrusted with mentoring young people."
Ritz added that he is grateful for the game officials' quick actions and said that the school's officials are "standing firmly and prayerfully with our player and his family" during the investigation.
