Windsor will soon add red-light cameras to intersections across the town as part of an attempt to make streets safer.
The program will begin with cameras covering all four directions at 7th Street and Main Street, according to a town news release.
The system will trigger when the light is red and a vehicle is about to enter the intersection. The system then takes several pictures of the vehicle’s license plate, as well as a 12-second video of the entire violation.
Drivers who are recorded failing to stop at red lights, or making a right turn without coming to a complete stop, will receive a citation with a $75 fine. Windsor police will review and verify every potential violation before issuing a citation, according to the release.
The town partnered with Verra Mobility, a traffic safety technology company, to implement the cameras.
