ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A new playground was built in a day at the Thomas Ryan Recreation Center on Webster Avenue. The City of Rochester and the Healthi Kids Coalition teamed up with local volunteers and KABOOM! to create the play space.
Crews began working at 8:30 a.m. Friday. The playground’s design was influenced by input from local children about their preferences.
“We invited children from the area – local school – adults weigh in about what they wanted to see here – make this space a special place not only safe, but they belong and have some ownership over the playground here,” said Peter Christopherson, project manager at KABOOM!
The playground was completed by 2:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. However, it will not be open until Monday as the concrete needs time to dry.
