Conor McGregor called Arthur Jones a ‘friendly giant’ as he paid tribute to the late brother of Jon Jones, alongside others.

UFC‘s past and present stars have been out in their masses with their tributes to Arthur, who tragically passed away on Friday at the age of 39.

His passing was announced by NFL side Baltimore Ravens, for whom Arthur played from 2010 to 2013, featuring as a key member in their Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

“His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others,” General Manager Eric DeCosta said in an emotional tribute.

Arthur was the older brother of the UFC’s youngest ever champion, Jones, and Chandler Jones, who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.

The MMA world has since shown an outpouring of love to the New York native and his family.

“Very sad to hear this news,” McGregor, the first fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously, posted on X.

“Arthur was a great man, a friendly giant! God speed Arthur Jones.”

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall said: “Thoughts and prayers to the Jones family,” responding to an Instagram post from the UFC.

Dana White, the UFC CEO, replied to the same post with the praying hands emoji.

Former UFC champions Tony Ferguson, Tyron Woodley, Israel Adesanya, and Henry Cejudo were among others to pay their respects in the comments section.

UFC commentator Jon Anik added: “This is profoundly sad. As you can see from the outpouring of love, Arthur touched so many lives in our UFC community with his warmth and that smile.

“My heart is heavy for Jon and the entire Jones family.”

Speaking in 2024, Jones shared an insight into the special relationship he shared with his brothers, and how Arthur played a big role in his rise to UFC superstardom.

“I grew up in a really athletic family,” he explained to Ketone-IQ.

“Both of my brothers – everyone knew they were going to be in the NFL by the time they were in college.

“I pretty much just wanted to keep up with the Joneses. So, I literally joined the jiu-jitsu school, and my jiu-jitsu teacher believed I had some great potential to be a really good martial artist.

“I’m glad I listened to him because, fast forward, I had a really great career.”

Jones hasn’t fought since defending the UFC heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic in November 2024.

Having previously announced his retirement, ‘Bones’ is expected to make a return at the UFC’s historic White House card in 2026.

A tribute to his brother is expected to be played out at UFC 320 tonight in Las Vegas.

White’s promotion returns for its first numbered event in over a month on Saturday night as Magomed Ankalaev defends the light heavyweight title against Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 320.
