Patrick Williams was a full participant during Day 3 of Chicago Bulls training camp.
There was a slight scare on Wednesday when the forward exited practice with an ankle injury. He reportedly planted awkwardly on his foot, leading him to leave the team’s 5-on-5 scrimmage. The forward proceeded to ride the stationary bike but did not return to the court.
Fast forward a little less than 24 hours, and head coach Billy Donovan shared that Williams was about to rejoin the team.
The Bulls sure hope this is the only bump in the road for the 24-year-old during the preseason. Injuries have been a major issue for Williams over the course of his five-year-long career. After undergoing season-ending foot surgery in 2023-24, he proceeded to play only 63 games last season due to varying issues. In the process, he also found himself benched in place of rookie Matas Buzelis.
Williams is now expected to transition to a reserve role one season after signing a five-year, $90 million deal. Can he finally take steps in the right direction with the spotlight off him? If one thing is for sure, staying healthy is key to making that happen.
The only other injury news from Day 3 surrounds Josh Giddey. The guard reportedly tweaked his ankle and was held out of portions of practice, but he is expected to be a full go moving forward, per CHGO’s Will Gottlieb.
