Sonora, CA — A majority of people who live in a six-county region surrounding the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire will not have to worry about having their home insurance coverage dropped over the next year.

Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued a one-year moratorium for about 124,000 homes in Tuolumne, Calaveras, Mariposa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Merced counties.

He says, “I am acting to protect the Sierra foothill residents who have already been through a lot. Nobody should worry about losing their insurance coverage after going through a wildfire emergency.”

The one-year moratorium related to the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire is effective September 19 (the date that Governor Gavin Newsom signed an emergency declaration). It covers the fire area and the immediate surrounding region. Lara says the moratorium includes everyone who lives in the zip codes below, regardless of whether they were directly impacted.
