Australia cricket team star Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. The all-rounder was hit on his wrist during a net session following which it was confirmed that he won’t a be a part of the series. It comes as a blow to both Australia and Maxwell, especially as they commence their T20 World Cup preparations with the series against the Kiwis.
Maxwell ruled out
As per a statement issued by Cricket Australia, Maxwell suffered a fractured forearm after being hit by Mitchell Owen while batting in the nets. Josh Philippe has been named his replacement for the three-match NZ vs AUS T20I series that commences from Wednesday. The statement said though Maxwell will seek a specialist review on his forearm in the coming days, there is no clarity as to when he could make his comeback.
Maxwell’s teammate Matthew Short provided details of the incident, noting that it wasn’t good. Maxwell’s injury is the second blow for Australia who already lost Alex Carey before the start of the series.
“We’re training under a marquee, so it’s really echo-y and loud. I saw (Owen) smoked it and then the aftermath – it hit Maxi on the wrist. It didn’t sound good. He is not the guy you want to be bowling to in T20 training, that’s for sure,” Short recounted.
T20I is the only format that Maxwell is currently active in, having retired from ODIs earlier this year. He will now be racing against time to recover completely for the five-match IND vs AUS series at home in November and theT20 World Cup which will be held in February 2026.
