For the second straight year, Duane Kuiper has been recognized as one of the top broadcasters in Major League Baseball.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced its ballot for next year’s Ford C. Frick Award, which is given to one baseball broadcaster each year at the hall’s enshrinement weekend.
Kuiper, who began calling Giants games in 1986 after retiring from his playing career, has been nominated five times now but has not yet won the award. He and booth partner Mike Krukow were both nominated each of the last two years, but Krukow did not make the 2026 ballot.
Kuiper, 75, was also a finalist in 2014 and 2022. Krukow, 73, was a finalist in 2017 after beginning his color commentary in 1990.
Kuiper played parts of 12 seasons in the major leagues, from 1974-81 in Cleveland and 1982-85 with the Giants. He, Krukow and fellow broadcaster Jon Miller, who rotate through TV and radio calls along with Dave Flemming, have become as much a part of the Giants fan experience as many players.
The winner of the 2026 Frick Award will be announced Dec. 10 at MLB’s Winter Meetings and honored during Hall of Fame weekend next July 25.
