We’re still more than one full week away from the 2025-26 NHL regular season beginning for the Blackhawks, but that hasn’t kept me from paying attention to players that might be on Kyle Davidson’s radar for the 2026 NHL Draft. With most projections telling us the Hawks will have a very early pick in 2026, it’s good to keep tabs on names that might in play for Chicago.
I previously wrote about eight specific programs that have fed the Chicago Blackhawks’ pipeline recently. Some of those teams will have intriguing draft-eligible prospects on their respective rosters this coming season.
Similarly, the Blackhawks will have players returning to junior, college and European teams that will also have some noteworthy prospects in the 2026 NHL Draft as teammates.
Here are six 2026 NHL Draft prospects who the Blackhawks will see based on the programs they’ve got players with this year and programs they’ve drafted from in recent years.
Tynan Lawrence, CMuskegon LumberjacksThe Blackhawks have drafted a player from Muskegon in the first round in back-to-back drafts (Sacha Boisvert, Václav Nestrašil). Lawrence (6-0, 185) appears to be an early consensus top-5 prospect in the 2026 draft class. With the assumption the Blackhawks will be in the lottery again, will they select a Lumberjack for a third consecutive year?
Ethan Belchetz, LWWindsor SpitfiresBelchetz is a big forward (6-5, 227) who will be a teammate of Blackhawks prospect AJ Spellacy in Windsor this coming season. The Spitfires’ roster is loaded with NHL talent and they’re expected to compete for a championship this season. If the Blackhawks are looking to add more size in the first round, he could be in play early.

— Ontario Hockey League (@OHLHockey) September 29, 2025 Viggo Björck, CMarcus Nordmark, CDjurgårdens (SHL)Björck (5-10, 172) and Nordmark (6-1, 183) aren’t as big as Belchetz, but they’re spending time with Anton Frondell in Sweden this year. Björck might be a reach in the top ten overall, but the Blackhawks also own the Panthers’ first-round pick and there might be interest in Björck or Nordmark in the middle of the round if the Hawks move up.
Caleb Malhotra, CBrantford BulldogsThe son of Manny Malhotra, Caleb will be a teammate of Marek Vanacker and Parker Holmes this coming season. He’s an elite level playmaker who plays both sides of the puck well and, obviously, has good bloodlines. He might be in play with the Panthers’ pick later in the first round.
J.P. Hurlbert, RWKamloops BlazersKamloops didn’t make my list of familiar programs, but the Blackhawks will get a good look at Hurlbert this season while watching 2025 pick Nathan Behm. He isn’t a big winger (5-11, 176) but he is committed to play at the University of Michigan in 2026-27, the program that developed another undersized forward for the Blackhawks: Frank Nazar. He might be in play with either the Panthers’ pick or early in the second round (the Hawks have their own pick in the second as well as the Islanders’ and Leafs’ picks).
