Even fellow rock icons weighed in. Disturbed frontman David Draiman wrote on X, “Rest up and heal my brother ??,” while Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix posted on Instagram: “Dang i feel for you brother. Ive had 4 vocal surgeries and had issues just like yours. I know how tough this is. Heal up and get after it when you are better. Much love brotha!”

Shadows and Shaddix aren’t the only stars who’ve battled serious voice issues. Adele underwent surgery for a vocal cord hemorrhage in 2011, then returned stronger the next year. Sam Smith had surgery in 2015 to stop recurrent bleeding in the vocal cords. Shakira postponed her El Dorado tour in 2017 after a right vocal cord hemorrhage. Justin Timberlake pushed 2018 dates due to bruised vocal cords on doctor’s orders. And Steven Tyler famously blew a blood vessel in 2006 and underwent microsurgery before returning to the stage.
