Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland was limited to just six snaps in the team’s Week 3 win against the Dallas Cowboys because of a hip injury. There was a belief earlier in the week that Loveland’s injury wasn’t deemed to be too serious. That led to some optimism that he would play against the Raiders in Week 4. Loveland even went from not practicing on Wednesday and Thursday to practicing in a limited capacity. Evidently, it wasn’t enough for him to get the green light to play against Las Vegas.
FRIDAY’S CHICAGO BEARS INJURY REPORT
Loveland, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been limited to three catches and 43 yards in three games this season. With him out of the equation for Week 4, the Bears elevated tight end Stephen Carlson from the practice squad for Sunday’s showdown in Sin City. Carlson joins starter Cole Kmet and backup Durham Smythe as healthy tight ends on Chicago’s roster.
Additionally, the team announced (via Twitter/X) the signing of linebacker Carl Jones Jr. and the promotion of defensive lineman Jonathan Ford from the practice squad. I’ll take additions of Jones and Ford to the roster as a sign that the Bears see the defensive line and linebacker position groups as ones that need help in the depth department.
