ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County has announced Matthew Schwartz will be assuming the role as Monroe County Attorney starting in October.
Schwartz will be replacing John Bringewatt as county attorney. Bringewatt was recently appointed to the New York State Court of Claims by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
“I am honored to be selected as the next Monroe County Attorney and grateful for the trust placed in me by County Executive Bello to serve in this role,” said Schwartz in a press release. “The Law Department is vital to ensuring County government operates with integrity, accountability, and fairness.”
Prior to being appointed, Schwartz served as senior deputy county attorney and supervisor of the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office, where he worked with County Executive Adam Bello and the Monroe County Office of Probation on the JEDS Program.
Schwartz also worked in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor for nearly 20 years.
In a press release, Bello said he has known Schwartz for over ten years, and said he has “always admired his legal skills.”
“I am confident that Matthew will serve our community with integrity and help us continue to build a stronger, more accountable Monroe County,” said Bello.
Schwartz will assume the role on Oct. 1.
