ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced Saturday is “Free Fishing Day” in New York State.
On Saturday, people 16 and older will be able to fish for free without a fishing license. This annual event also coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day.
The DEC says this is a great time for people to try out fishing for the first time, get back into it, or take a friend or family out with them.
The last Free Fishing Day for 2025 will be held Nov. 11.
Although people are able to fish without a license, the DEC wants to remind people all other fishing regulations are still in effect.
