ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A touching story from Golisano Children’s Hospital about a special bond formed between a young patient and her nurse.
Maddie Rollins, a little girl with a serious gastrointestinal condition known as NEC, spent years in the hospital under the care of nurse Caroline Bamburoski.
Bamburoski was there for Maddie through every surgery, and over time, they became as close as family. Maddie even served as the flower girl at Bamburoski’s wedding in January.
Maddie’s mother, Latasha Rollins, who is also a nurse, expressed gratitude for Bamburoski’s dedication.
“She advocated for my daughter a lot. When she would be in pain and things like that. You know, I never took care of kids in the hospital, I work with adults,” Latasha Rollins said.
Bamburoski expressed her joy in being able to celebrate Maddie’s life and the things she has done. Latasha said Maddie calls Bamburoski “Auntie.”
