A record-breaking amount of rain fell in the Denver area during Tuesday’s storm, according to the National Weather Service.

The Denver area saw roughly 1.28 inches of rain on Tuesday, according to weather service data.

That broke the Sept. 23 record for rainfall in Denver and is 32 times the typical amount of rain recorded in the city on that date, 0.04 inches, according to the weather service. The previous Sept. 23 rainfall record of 0.83 inches was set in 2017, meteorologists said in a record report.

Denver normally receives an average of 1.02 inches of rain in September, according to weather service records. The rainiest September on record brought 5.47 inches of rain to the city in 2013.
