We have some updates regarding injured Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
We’ll start with news from Halas Hall, as Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson supplied a mixed bag of news:

The first-year Bears coach told reporters on Monday that it was his understanding that cornerback Jaylon Johnson would undergo surgery to repair the injury that took him out of the Week 2 loss to the Detroit Lions and landed him on injured reserve over the weekend.
This bit of news comes one day after NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported (via Twitter/X) that the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback was heading to Philadelphia to meet with Dr. William Meyers. Rapoport added that core muscle surgery was the likely outcome. Sure, that sounds bad. But Rap Sheet also chimes in to say that surgery would allow Johnson to have a chance to come back in the second half. That would be a welcome sight.
Jaylon Johnson has been hurt since before training camp began in July. Johnson began the summer on the non-football injury list because of a “freak accident” that occurred while preparing for the season away from the team. The injury kept him out of training camp, caused him to miss all three preseason games, and was serious enough to make him miss Week 1 of the regular season. The injury also caused a calf issue that popped up because he was overcompensating for the groin injury. It has been a messy few months for CB1, who is out indefinitely with the injury.
With that being said, the Bears could still bring Jaylon Johnson back off injured reserve later in the year. Johnson will need to be healthy for that to even be a possibility. And even if he is healthy, I’m not sure you can justify risking further injury with a return unless Chicago’s football team is in the hunt for postseason play.
