ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Monroe County Republican Committee has elected a new leader. Peter Elder, the former Village of Webster mayor and a longtime Monroe County Board of Elections member, will chair the committee.

Elder was elected during an organizational meeting on Saturday. In addition, Phyllis Wickerham was re-elected as secretary and Scott Adair was elected Treasurer.

Elder became the Republican commissioner of the Board of Elections this year after serving nearly 28 years with the board, including as deputy commissioner. He was also the leader of the Webster Republican Committee, where he helped to recruit, support, and elect candidates.

In a statement, Elder thanked his predecessor, Patrick Reilly, for his service. Elder said he aims to promote “common-sense leadership” that prioritizes taxpayers, families, and safe communities. Elder’s next step will be appointing a vice chair and party sub-committees.

Elder has been involved in several community organizations in Webster, including the Webster Village Historic Preservation Commission.
