“It really disgusted me, very upset and angry,” said Ja’yeir’s stepfather, Nehemiah Daniel. “It’s just sad to see that somebody can hit a child and just drive away, and just keep it moving.”
Smith’s parents remain in contact with the Rochester Police Department. Daniel expressed hope that the driver will be found, emphasizing the importance of the police work involved.
“It’d show you know that RPD put work in and helped out and did their job,” said Daniel. “We still have hope and it’s not overlooked.”
Nehemiah and Ja’yeir’s mother, Lakeisha Grayson, have a simple message for the driver: turn yourself in.
