ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rochester’s Honor Flight returned Sunday, marking the 91st flight’s arrival back in the city .
Dozens of people gathered to welcome the veterans home after their trip to Washington, D.C. News10NBC’s Stacey Pengsen emceed the event.
One of the veterans was Deborah Ordway, a retired sergeant first class in the U.S. Army who served during Vietnam. She was honored at the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum in Washington, D.C.
“I did not know I was even going to be honored until they called me up there and they gave me a plaque while I was presented there, and I was honored to be presented with that plaque,” Ordway said.
Leigh Smith, a familiar face for some at News10NBC, also made an appearance at the Honor Flight return. Smith served in Vietnam and later worked as a creative services director at the station. He was welcomed back by friends, former colleagues, and family at the airport.
“When I came back 55 years ago or whatever it was, you didn’t get this. So it’s a little late, but it’s wonderful,” Smith said.
