POINT LOMA – One of the biggest events of the school year took place Friday when Point Loma High School celebrated its 99th homecoming.
In keeping with the school’s current 100th anniversary celebration, students in each grade selected various decades to highlight in their traditional music and dance performances at halftime of the football game against Eastlake High of Chula Vista.
ASB advisor Amy Denney reports that the classes selected these decades:
Freshmen – 1920s.
Sophomores – 1990s.
Juniors – 2020s.
Seniors – 1970s.
Faculty members judged each class’ creativity, enthusiasm and performance, with the winning class set to be announced before the second half.
Performances also included the school’s marching band and cheerleading squad.
Another traditional feature of homecoming is the alumni walk, which led off the halftime celebration. Every alum in attendance was encouraged to assemble on the school track, where to parade while being cheered by current students.
The Homecoming Dance will take place Saturday at the Port Pavilion (Cruise Ship Terminal) from 7-11 p.m.
