Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jana Härtel from Ebersbach Bunzwangen, Germany has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Nebraska beginning in fall 2026.

“First and foremost, I want to thank my parents and my family for their endless love, support, and encouragement. Without their sacrifices, motivation, and belief in me, I would not be where I am today. I would also like to sincerely thank Coach Pablo and Coach Patrick for giving me this amazing opportunity and for believing in me. I am deeply grateful to my current coaches Farshid and Sabrina, as well as my former coaches Jan, Alex, Marius, and Jürgen, and to the DLRG Faunda where I first learned how to swim. Thank you all for shaping me into the athlete and person I am today. I can’t wait to become a Husker and take on this next chapter of my journey. Go Big Red!!!”

Hartel swims for SV Region Stuttgart in southwest Germany. Back in May, she competed in three events at the German National Championships. She swam to a lifetime best 17:08.25 in the 1500 freestyle and also swam the 800 free (9:03.80) and 400 free (4:28.41). In June, she lowered her best time in the 1500 free even further touching in a 17:00.42.

Hartel’s Best LCM Times (With SCY Conversions) Are:

1500 free: 17:00.42 (16:40.41) 800 free: 8:58.62 (10:03.49) 400 free: 4:21.46 (4:52.95) 200 free: 2:05.06 (1:49.78)

The Nebraska women finished 10th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. The team went on to finish 34th at NCAAs, highlighted by a 6th place finish by Gena Jorgenson in the 1650 free as she swam to a 15:49.99. Jorgenson went on to represent the US this summer at the World University Games in Berlin and began her senior season this fall.

Based on her best converted times, Hartel is not far off what it took to score at the conference level as it took a 16:32.23 in the 1650 free.

Hartel will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Georgia Holgate, Dominika Borkowska, and Meredith Peyton. Holgate is also from Germany while Borkowska is from Poland.
