For the second consecutive day, Chase Strumpf went deep, but for the second consecutive day, it resulted in a loss.
This game was in Iowa’s grasp until the late innings. The Cubs got on the board first in the bottom of the second with Strumpf’s homer, but then fell behind in the top of the fourth 2-1. In the sixth, Iowa tied the game back up on a Jonathan Long RBI single, then they proceeded to take a 4-2 lead in the seventh when Dixon Machado brought in a pair of runs with a two-RBI single.
The lead was short-lived, however. In the top of the eighth, the Mud Hens got those two runs right back off Zach Pop to even the score at four. After a scoreless bottom half of the inning, Toledo broke the game wide open in the top of the ninth with a six-run effort, with each run coming off Gavin Hollowell. The top of the ninth ended with the Mud Hens holding a 10-4 advantage, and that ended up as the final score.
