PENFIELD, N.Y. — New York State Police say its investigating social media posts and searches made by a student within the Penfield Central School District related to making “potential harmful threats.”
In an email sent out to Penfield families, they say a student from the high school posted to social media, which included a potential threat of causing harm to others at one of the elementary schools in the district, and causing harm to themselves.
The district also said although the post didn’t specify a school, they “take all such posts very seriously and are cooperating with the authorities in their investigation.”
Both the district and police confirm there is currently no indication of an immediate threat to any Penfield schools, and they are still investigating.

“The New York State Police confirm that this matter is an active and ongoing investigation. We were made aware of concerning social media posts and internet searches made by a Penfield School student that referenced potential threats of harm. While the posts did not specify a particular location, we take all threats seriously. At this time, there is no indication of an imminent threat to any school within the Penfield Central School District.
The New York State Police are working closely with the Penfield Central School District and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community. Additional law enforcement presence will be maintained at area schools out of an abundance of caution.”
