Erling Haaland became the fastest player in Champions League history to reach 50 goals in the competition as Manchester City began their 2025-26 European campaign with a 2-0 win over Napoli.
Haaland opened the scoring early in the second half to reach a half-century of Champions League goals in just 49 games, 13 fewer than Ruud van Nistelrooy, who previously held the record.
Jérémy Doku added a second as City dominated at the Etihad Stadium, having 23 shots to just one from the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men in the first half after Giovanni Di Lorenzo saw red for bringing Haaland down when through on goal.

The Serbian goalkeeper was kept busy, making further saves from Nico O’Reilly and Josko Gvardiol headers in quick succession, and the Italian champions held out until half-time.
The theme of City dominance continued in the second half, with Foden sending a shot wide of the far post after a threatening run into the left side of the Napoli box.
That pressure finally told in the 56th minute when Foden played a lovely lofted ball over the top and Haaland looped his header into the corner past a despairing dive from Milinkovic-Savic.
It was 2-0 in the 65th minute when Doku received the ball from Reijnders on the edge of the box and took advantage of a visibly tiring Napoli backline as he weaved through them with ease and placed his shot low into the far corner of the net.
City took their foot off the pedal after that and strolled to a routine three points, with Haaland taking the glory following yet another scoring record claimed.
