GENESEO, N.Y. – A 16-year-old temporarily escaped from custody Wednesday afternoon on Main Street in Geneseo. Livingston County deputies were transporting the teenager to jail when the escape occurred.
The teenager was later found in a backyard between Center Street and Oak Street and was taken back into custody.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the escape.
Due to New York state law, police can generally no longer put 16-year-olds in handcuffs, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
