The Broncos’ ownership group continues to expand its influence in the NFL.
Owner Carrie Walton-Penner was recently named to the league’s health and safety committee, a source told The Denver Post. She and husband, Greg Penner, owner and CEO of the Broncos, are in New York this week for ownership committee meetings.
Walton-Penner now sits on three ownership committees, the latest in addition to the league’s diversity committee and the NFL Foundation.
Walton-Penner has been involved in several health and safety-related initiatives. That includes the work the ownership group did to study injury issues when it first arrived, as well as a study the Broncos did regarding the health and wellness impacts for school-age girls who play flag football and the club’s state-wide campaign to provide state-of-the-art helmets for every high school football player in Colorado.
The “ALL IN. ALL COVERED” initiative ended up providing more than 15,000 Riddell Axiom helmets at a total investment of more than $12 million.
The latest committee add for Walton-Penner follows Penner being named to the league’s management council in August. That group handles, among other things, ownership’s dealings with the NFL Players Association and the sides’ collective bargaining agreement. Penner also sits on three other committees: finance, ownership and compensation.
