LSU’s defense shined in the Tigers’ 20-10 victory over Florida in Week. The offense didn’t do a ton, but picked up some big gains against the Gators. Combined, they did what was necessary to secure a win.
On Tuesday, head coach Brian Kelly looked back on some of the Tigers’ best moments from Saturday’s triumph. He started on the offensive side, detailing how LSU‘s rushing attack — even though it struggled much of the night — helped set up a 65-yard completion to tight end Bauer Sharp.
“This is about running the football. As much as people were talking about running the ball, we had some effectiveness… and they got into what would be a 5-man front, here, for the first time,” Kelly said. “And they have a hard time now with the play action… [Garrett Nussmeier] does a great job with the play action fake… because of that, we’re able to get the tight end in the seam right away.”

Haulcy, a transfer from Houston, demonstrated the talent and mental acuity that made him such an attractive addition for Kelly on the play, which allowed the Tigers to take a 13-10 lead before halftime.
“In this situation (3rd-and-7), we’ve got down and distance in our favor… we brought a simulated pressure. We only got 4 [rushers] coming, so we’re in a pretty good coverage situation… our safety, now, can really sit,” Kelly stated. “A.J. Haulcy… he’s just watching the eyes of the quarterback… feels the dig, steps underneath it. And that’s why we really liked him… his anticipation and ability to read the quarterback.”
