‘Nobody would be comfortable’ – Mike McDaniel could be fighting for his Dolphins job on Thursday night ...Middle East

It’s getting late early in Miami.

The Miami Dolphins are 0-2 as they head into Thursday night’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills, but they might have bigger problems on the horizon.

It isn’t just the winless start that’s glaring for Miami – it’s how hapless and downright awful the Dolphins have looked in the first two weeks of the season.

In Week 1, the Indianapolis Colts blasted the Dolphins 33-8, and on Sunday, Mike Vrabel’s New England Patriots stole a 33-27 victory in Miami.

It has been an extremely sloppy and uninspiring start.

Between the devolving play of franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the ongoing drama that constantly surrounds star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and a defense that can’t seem to stop a nosebleed, it’s reaching all-time bad vibes in Miami.

It starts with the man in charge: head coach Mike McDaniel. Once hailed as a boy genius whose offenses couldn’t be stopped, he now finds himself on the hottest of hot seats.

McDaniel, in his fourth year at the helm, led the Dolphins to the postseason in his first two seasons.

However, after a disappointing 8-9 campaign last year and the early-season struggles and turmoil surrounding this year’s team, the end may be near for the 42-year-old head coach.

In a talkSPORT exclusive interview, Brian T. Smith asked ESPN’s NFL insider Dan Graziano what the future in Miami looks like and if McDaniel is in real jeopardy of losing his job sooner rather than later.

Graziano said: “I don’t have information to indicate that Miami would consider a change at this early stage of the season.

“They are playing this week on Thursday, so I don’t think obviously anything’s going to happen on a short week.

“But of course, the flip side of that is there’s a lot of time before the fourth game. You look at the betting markets and Mike McDaniel is probably the favorite, right?

“I think the Dolphins like Mike McDaniel and would not want to make a change.

“The circumstances sometimes push teams to a position where they have to do that, even though they don’t want to.

“If this season is going to go this badly, as badly as it did the first two weeks for the Dolphins, I think it stands to reason that nobody would be comfortable or feel safe. That includes the coach, the GM, quarterback, all that.”

Graziano was then asked who the likely candidates could be if/when McDaniel gets fired.

To which he stated: “The coordinators on the staff are interesting. Frank Smith is the offensive coordinator.

“He’s fairly well regarded. Anthony Weaver is the defensive coordinator who has gotten some head coach interviews in the past.

“So there are places they could go. I’m not saying they’re going to do this, I don’t believe that it happens this soon in the season if it happens at all.

“But there are guys on the staff that if they decided to make that move that they could take a look at as potential candidates for the future, although that hiring the interim doesn’t tend to work out that great usually.”

McDaniel and the Dolphins face a stiff test on Thursday, as they travel to Buffalo to face Josh Allen and the 2-0 Bills.

All eyes will be on McDaniel’s squad and whether or not he can find a way to get his team back on track against one of the best teams in the league.

A win could slightly cool the heat under McDaniel’s seat. But a loss, dropping the Dolphins to 0-3, could give owner Stephen Ross the chance to hand him a pink slip—especially with an extended break before their next game, as Graziano alluded to.
