Arizona Cardinals cornerback Max Melton was helped off the field by trainers and carted to the locker room after making a diving tackle in the first quarter on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Melton grabbed his right knee after a 40-yard catch-and-run from Carolina’s Tetairoa McMillan and was assisted to the blue medical tent.
He was soon after carted to the tunnel with a towel over his head. The Cardinals announced that Melton and defensive lineman L.J. Collier were questionable to return with knee injuries.
With Arizona having already lost Starling Thomas V and Sean Murphy-Bunting for the season, the Cardinals played Will Johnson and Garrett Williams on the outside and turned to Denzel Burke in the nickel.
Melton is in his second season with the Cardinals, who took him No. 43 overall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old played in all 17 games last season.
He played 100% of Arizona’s defensive snaps last week against the New Orleans Saints. He combined for six tackles with one pass defensed in a 20-13 victory.
On Sunday, Melton recorded two tackles.
