Rivals have certainly reunited this week, as Greeley West and Northridge entered play on Friday night looking to engage in their heated rivalry on the gridiron. Ditto for longtime small-school football powers Eaton and Platte Valley.
But for those of you who were unable to clear their schedules for those particular clashes Friday night, no reason to fret.
There are plenty of other intriguing rivalries to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks.
Among them, Greeley West hits the road to take on Northridge on the softball diamond at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Greeley Central and Greeley West will renew their back-and-forth rivalry on the football field at District 6 Stadium at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.

Also in the coming weeks, Greeley West will play host to Greeley Central on the hardwood for a girls volleyball match at 6 p.m. Sept. 22. The Wildcats will turn around and face the Grizzlies on the volleyball court at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Northridge. Those same two 4A/5A Longs Peak League rivals will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Greeley Central.
Greeley Central’s softball team will play host to Northridge at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Tointon Academy’s field in Greeley. Just a few weeks later, the Wildcats will play host to Greeley West at 4:15 p.m. Oct. 6 at Tointon.
Considering all the familiarity — and the close proximity — between the two schools, Windsor and Severance lend themselves to a natural rivalry. The Wizards’ powerhouse football team will play host to the Silver Knights at 7 p.m. Sept. 19.

The Reds will again be on the road to take on another longtime volleyball rival, Platte Valley, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16.
In one of the most anticipated matchups of the fall, Eaton will play host to University on the softball diamond at 4 p.m. Oct. 2. The Reds and Bulldogs have won five of the past six 3A state championships, with Eaton winning four of those, including the past three.
A day later, these same two schools will reignite their rivalry on the football field at 7 p.m. in Eaton.

Greeley Central’s boys soccer team would like nothing more than to prove it is a legitimate postseason contender this fall.
One way to do that is routinely come up clutch in tightly contested matchups.
The Wildcats have done that with supreme regularity in the season’s initial weeks.
The latest example came via a 2-1 road win Tuesday against another one of the area’s top programs, Windsor.
With that victory, Greeley Central ran its record to 5-0.
