SPENCERPORT, N.Y. – The Spencerport girls’ soccer team is aiming for a historic milestone as they pursue their 10th consecutive Section V Championship. The team, known for its winning legacy, is treating this year as if they’re competing for their first title.
“We’ve always been a really good program,” said senior Emily Peacock. “I’ve felt a lot of pressure on myself and felt I had to be the best.”
The senior class recalls a pivotal moment during their freshman year when they lost a game to Churchville-Chili, which was somewhat unexpected.
“My freshman year we lost to Churchville and it was kind of a shock to everybody,” Peacock said. “Everyone was like this is the year it’s over for them.”
However, their head coach, Jamie Schneider, encouraged them to move past the loss.
“He took us the next practice, and he said forget about it,” said Peacock. “We ended up winning every other game, so I guess that really helped.”
The team has won nine straight Section V Championships and is now focused on securing their 10th.
“There’s not really a difference,” said senior Liana Tata. “It’s a new team every year so just working with what we have each year.”
The players acknowledge the significance of a 10th Section V Championship win but remain committed to their process.
“10 is a big number,” Peacock said. “You just gotta take it year by year. Whatever happens, happens.”
Despite having targets on their backs, the Rangers remain focused on their game.
“We know that we definitely have targets on our backs from the past,” said Tata. “We just try to give everything all the time.”
“A lot of people have hated on Spencerport obviously,” Peacock said. “You just gotta really be yourself, play the way you play that you’ve always played.”
With their eyes set on a 10th straight championship, the Rangers continue to block shots and block out the haters.
