THURSDAY’S CHICAGO BEARS INJURY REPORT — The second installment of the injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions is OUT. And, unfortunately, it has me looking at the Bears’ depth chart to see who could be available in a pinch just in case some key players are unable to suit up for the NFC North grudge match.
Chicago Bears Injury Report — September 11, 2025
THESE PLAYERS DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Cornerback Kyler Gordon (hamstring), defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (knee)
The two defensive players who show up on the Bears injury report with DNP next to their names are the ones I am most concerned about going into Week 2.
There is a part of me that expected a veteran like Grady Jarrett to get some veteran’s rest days as he plays in his age-32 season. But getting back-to-back DNPs in Week 2 isn’t something I saw coming, especially since he played on 82 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in the opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Should Jarrett be unable to play, Andrew Bilings is an obvious candidate to get an uptick in playing time. But we could see the team get creative and slide Dayo Odeyingbo inside more often. Perhaps we could see the debut of rookie second-round pick Shemar Turner if Jarrett can’t play. But it wouldn’t be ideal if Jarrett can’t give it a go.
It is unsettling to see Kyler Gordon with DNP next to his name on Thursday’s injury report. Gordon was a late addition to the Week 1 Bears injury report, popping up on Sunday with a hamstring issue that downgraded his status to questionable for the MNF opener. There was hope that Gordon would suit up in Week 1 after the Bears didn’t elevate any cornerbacks to the active roster. Unfortunately, Gordon did *NOT* play in the game against the Vikings. Chicago’s secondary held it down for three quarters, but a faulty fourth turned the game around in the worst way.

So seeing news that Gordon isn’t practicing ahead of the team’s Week 2 game against the Lions is unfortunate. Cornerbacks such as Nick McCloud, Jaylon Jones, and Nahshon Wright are in a position to take snaps that would otherwise go to Gordon. This is where having a healthy Jaylon Johnson patrolling the defensive backfield helps. More on that in a moment.
THESE PLAYERS WERE LIMITED PARTICIPANTS: Linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring), cornerback Josh Blackwell (groin), running back Roschon Johnson (foot), wide receiver Jahdae Walker (ankle)
Noah Sewell did a swell job holding down the fort in T.J. Edwards‘ absence with a team-leading 7 solo tackles. And while I feel better about Edwards being a limited participant after not practicing at all last week, I won’t feel good about his status for Sunday’s upcoming game until he gets a full practice under his belt. Should Edwards be unable to play against Detroit, it will be Sewell (again) lined up to take those reps.

Rookie Kyle Monangai had an 11-yard reception, but his next carry will be his first in the NFL regular season. Wide receiver DJ Moore had three carries, while quarterback Caleb Williams led the team with 58 rushing yards on six attempts. In other words, I look forward to Roschon Johnson‘s return (and eventual removal from the Bears injury report) to help lighten the load.
THESE PLAYERS WERE FULL PARTICIPANTS: Cornerback Jaylon Johnson (calf, groin), wide receiver DJ Moore
It sounds like Jaylon Johnson is “on track” to play against the Lions in Week 2. Huzzah! I look forward to seeing another full participation designation on the next Bears injury report update.
