Green Bay Packers vs Washington Commanders odds, predictions and betting tips – who can get to 2-0 at Lambeau Field? ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

The Green Bay Packers and Washington Commanders look to build on winning starts in this week’s Thursday Night Football matchup at Lambeau Field.

Both teams enjoyed emphatic victories over divisional rivals in week 1, with the debuting Micah Parsons helping the Packers in stifling Detroit’s (previously) explosive offence while the Commanders defence completely shut down Russell Wilson and the New York Giants. The team from the capital are aiming to go 2-0 for just the second time since 2011. Green Bay, meanwhile, haven’t started with back-to-back wins since 2020.

Packers vs Commanders best bets

Over 48 points scored – 22/25 with BetMGM Josh Jacobs to score two or more touchdowns – 3/1 with bet365 Jayden Daniels to rush for over 43.5 rushing yards – 5/6 with Paddy Power

It may have only been one game, but the manner in which the Packers defeated last year’s 15-2 Lions made quite the statement. Micah Parsons played his part, sacking Jared Goff once and pressuring him into throwing an interception. Quarterback Jordan Love was excellent – completing 16 of his 22 passes for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns, earning him a QBR of 128.6.

Love is entering his third season as the starter and at 27 years old, he is the same age as both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers when they won the Super Bowl in the famous green and yellow jersey.

Optimism surrounding the Commanders is also at an all-time high as quarterback Jayden Daniels took the team to within a game of the Super Bowl as a rookie. It would’ve been their first appearance in the showpiece since 1991.

Their week 1 performance proved that last season wasn’t a flash in the pan albeit against a toothless Giants outfit. They gave up just six points, keeping the visitors out of the end zone all day and twice from goal-to-go situations.

There were some miscues and penalties on offence, however, and they will certainly need to clean those up as they go on the road, and against a more serious playoff contender in Green Bay.

Packers vs Commanders preview

2024 was a season of many highlights and bucking of trends for the Commanders as they won seven times on their travels, including in the Wild Card and Divisional rounds of the playoffs. In fact, their only away defeats since week 6 of last season have both come at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

Historically, Washington haven’t enjoyed their trips to Wisconsin, losing on all of their last six visits and only reaching the 20-point mark in one of those. You have to go all the way back to 1988 for their last win at Lambeau.

Everywhere feels like new territory for this new, Jayden Daniels-led version of Washington however. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year thrived in his 10 road games last season following his debut at Tampa, averaging a passer rating of 105.5 and throwing just three interceptions. That would be impressive for an established veteran, let alone a 24-year-old, given the range of hostile atmospheres and conditions NFL offences face away from home.

Against the Giants on Sunday, he completed 19 of 30 passes for 233 yards. Deebo Samuel was the preferred target, catching seven of those 19 for 77 yards. His speed may be crucial in this one too to enable Daniels to offload the ball quickly.

Daniels will be under pressure often against this Packers defence, who just held the Lions to 13 points – with seven of those coming via a ‘garbage time’ touchdown. The Lions sacked Jared Goff four times and could become one of the most formidable fronts in the league this season given they recorded 45 of them last season and have just added one of the best defensive players in football in the past fortnight.

The offence has been upgraded too with the addition of Matthew Golden in the draft – the first wide receiver the Packers have taken in the first round since 2002 – helping the likes of Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs get open more. The pair combined for 113 receiving yards on Sunday, with Reed catching a touchdown pass.

Jordan Love will be hoping they can create more separation than what the Giants receivers managed, as Marshon Lattimore had Giants star man Malik Nabers well covered for the most part on Sunday.

The bookies give the home team a slight edge in this one, as Washington make the journey north on a short week while the Packers haven’t had to leave their hometown yet. BetMGM have them at 8/15 on the moneyline and a 3.5 favourite on the spread.

The Commanders would not have been favoured in many of their matchups last season, but it is hard to look past the Packers here, who’s week 1 performance was the more polished and the more ominous for the rest of the league.

Here are three props we’re tipping for this clash between two of last season’s NFC playoff teams.

Over 48 total points to be scored

Our first tip is to take the over on the above points total of 48. Aside from the gritty opener against the Giants, Washington were involved in some very high-scoring games at the end of last season. There were 78 and 76 points in their Conference Championship and Divisional Round games respectively. Four of their final six regular season games would’ve also hit the over on this market. In Jayden Daniels, they finally have a signal caller capable of explosive plays and putting up big numbers.

The Packers scored 30 points or more in five of their last seven regular season games in 2024. One of the two occasions they didn’t hit that mark was week 18 where they rested many of their starters ahead of the playoffs.

We are confident that the winning team will need to put up 30 points, if not more, to outscore the other team here.

Take the over of 48 points at 22/25 with BetMGM

Josh Jacobs to score for a tenth game running

Josh Jacobs has significantly boosted the Packers’ running game since he arrived just over a year ago from the Las Vegas Raiders. In his first season in green and yellow, he rushed for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns, with 12 of those coming in the last eight games.

Against the Lions, Jacobs made franchise history by scoring in a ninth consecutive regular season game. We feel he has a great chance of extending that streak into double figures against a Commanders run defence weakened following the loss of Jonathan Allen in the offseason.

As the anytime touchdown scorer market yields only minimal returns (5/8 with bet365), let’s back Jacobs for multiple scores for  what would be the third time in the ten-game purple patch.

Back Josh Jacobs to find the end zone twice at 3/1 with bet365

Jayden Daniels to rush for over 43.5 yards

Jayden Daniels’ legs will be, and may have to be, one of Washington’s main weapons on offence. In his rookie season, Daniels was their leading rusher with 891 yards. Against the Giants in week 1, Daniels recorded 68 yards on 11 carries – maintaining his average of around six per rush from last season.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt impressed on debut, breaking a rookie running back record in the process – becoming the first player drafted outside the top-200 picks to register over 75 rushing yards and a touchdown on their first NFL outing. It is unlikely he’ll be able to continue hitting those heights, however, if he is only to receive another 10 or so carries – which was his number of touches against the Giants.

We expect Daniels to call his own number quite often, so as to avoid the Packers pass rush headed up by Parsons as well as agile edge players Rashan Gary and Lukas Van Ness.

Take the over on Jayden Daniels’ rushing yards of 43.5 at 5/6 with Paddy Power
