Dodgers’ Blake Snell dominates Rockies, who sink to yet another new low in 9-0 loss ...Middle East

Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Max Scherzer, Gaylord Perry, Roy Halladay and Blake Snell are the only pitchers in major league history to win the Cy Young Award in both the American League and National League.

Snell was on the mound Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium against the dreadful Rockies. Take a wild guess how it went.

Snell dominated and the Dodgers sailed to a 9-0 victory, sweeping the Rockies and sending them to their 12th loss in their last 14 games.

The Dodgers’ latest beatdown of the Rockies — they won the season series 11-2 — included a spectacular night from Mookie Betts. The veteran shortstop hit a grand slam off Anthony Molina in the eighth, went 4 for 5, and drove in five runs.

The Rockies, who had just two hits and struck out 17 times, were broomed for the 18th time this season. But that’s not even the most painful part of their trip to L.A. They managed just eight hits, the fewest hits in a three-game series in franchise history. They “eclipsed” the record of nine hits, set on April 11-13 of this season at San Diego, when the Padres outscored them 16-0 over the three games.

Snell pitched six scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out 11 and walked two. His curveball had the Rockies fishing from the get-go. One more Snell tidbit: the veteran lefty has thrown 25 consecutive scoreless innings against Colorado, with 46 strikeouts vs. eight walks.

Still, once Snell left the mound, the Rockies had a chance to get back into the game and perhaps pull off a late-season miracle. With one out in the seventh, Kyle Karros, pinch-hitter Michael Toglia, and Braxton Fulford drew consecutive walks off reliever Michael Kopech to load the bases. Kopech got the hook, and lefty Alex Vesia came in and promptly struck out pinch-hitter Mickey Moniak and Tyler Freeman to squelch the Rockies’ would-be rally.

Lefty Kyle Freeland, fresh off one of the best starts of his career, gave Colorado a workmanlike 5 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs — though only one run was earned — struck out five and walked one.

L.A. did its damage against Freeland in the second inning. The Dodgers’ four-run outburst began with a fielding error by Rockies rookie third baseman Kyle Karros. An RBI double by Andy Pages, a sacrifice fly by Enrique Hernandez, an RBI single by Shohei Ohtani, and an RBI double by Betts followed it.
