ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The 14th annual Rochester Fringe Festival is underway now through Saturday, Sept. 20. It’s considered the largest multidisciplinary performing arts festival in New York State.
So, what acts are free to attend this year? That’s what a viewer asked News10NBC’s Emily Putnam. The Spiegelgarden is the epicenter of the festival, where a lot of the free shows and events are happening. Twenty free events will happen at the Spiegelgarden over the next week and a half.
The Fringe Festival’s website allows you to filter for exactly the type of performance you’re looking for. There are 85 total free shows and events this year. Among the free events at the Spiegelgarden are 13 movie screenings, including “Wicked,” “Conclave,” and “A Mighty Wind.”
There’s also an interactive comedy show set in a hot tub and you can test your knowledge of the area at Rochester Trivia. There’s also a free AI theatre experiment at the School of the Arts, an interactive game board experience inspired by Rochester architecture next to the Rochester Contemporary Art Center, and several concerts at the Eastman School of Music.
At Parcel 5, you can catch a juggling act, a French magic and puppetry show for kids called “Jam Side Up”, and more. The festival’s big finale is the free show at Parcel 5. On Sept. 19 and 20, an Italian performance group will bring a giant glowing orb to the space above Parcel 5.
